What it means if you rent in San Bernardino County

In the mountain and desert towns, a short-term rental competes with hundreds of permitted neighbors on the same ridge or the same road. With permits coming and going every week, the listings that stay booked are the ones guests can find and trust on their own.

Turn a permit into bookings you keep

A permit lets you rent. Guests still have to find you, and every booking that comes through Airbnb or Vrbo pays the platform's fee. Cavmir builds websites for short-term rentals, including in San Bernardino County: a site in your own brand that ranks for the searches guests make, with live direct booking from your PMS or a button that sends guests to your listing.

Method

How this report was made

Source
Compiled by Cavmir from the public permit register:
Date range
Active permits issued September 2019 to October 2026, as listed on October 22, 2026 (4,917 permits). Additions and removals tracked from July 6, 2026.
What we counted
Each active permit counts once, by the community and the issue date the register gives. A permit counts as removed when it was on the register in an earlier check and was missing on October 22.
Limits
Covers unincorporated San Bernardino County only. The community names are the register's own labels (for example “Big Bear Lake area”).
Privacy
This report publishes totals only. No owner name, street address or map location from the register appears on this page or in the download.
